Eliminating Anxiety and Discomfort

Before visiting the dentist for even common surgical procedures, many patients experience excessive dread.  This is more than simple aversion and the personal preference to go anywhere-but-there.  Symptoms in some cases can include heightened pulse, increased respiration and even panic.

And, while few persons look forward to having another person's hands in their mouth, there are patients for whom the close proximity of dental procedures can be excessively claustrophobic even if the person in proximity is a medical professional.

If you experience one or both of the aforementioned conditions, there is now a safe, effective and painless solution.

Sedation dentistry is a pharmaceutical, one-pill solution which eliminates or greatly reduces not only the discomfort of a dental procedure, but also the anxiety experienced in advance of the visit.

How it works

After an initial consultation with Dr. Dintcho, you wíll be given a one-tablet prescription for Triazolam, a mild hypnotic.  About an hour prior to your visit, in the company of a friend or family member, you wíll take the pill.

Youíll need assistance getting to and from the office, because by the time you arrive you'll be lightheaded and perhaps a little drowsy.  And, most important, youíll be relaxed.

Before the procedure actually begins, you'll be monitored by Dr. Dintcho both electronically and through personal observation.  If necessary, and if deemed totally safe, the doctor may administer additional sedative.

By the time the dental procedure begins you will be conscious, but emotionally removed from the process.  In a mild hypnotic state, you wíll likely find the total treatment somewhat relaxing, perhaps even enjoyable.

Then, before you know it, it's over and your companion can take you home.  (But no stopping off for cocktail hour.)

Six Common Questions

Q.

Will I really be totally relaxed?

A.

You'll be administered enough medication to make you virtually unaware of the treatment... and very relaxed.

Q

Will I remember anything?

A.

By the end of the treatment you'll have little or no memory of the actual procedure.

Q.

Will I feel any pain?

A.

Most patients experience no discomfort whatsoever during treatment and feel surprisingly good afterwards.

Q.

For what treatments is sedation dentistry practiced?

A.

Virtually any procedure which may produce discomfort: implants, dentures, cosmetic treatments, crowns, gum surgery and more.

Q.

Is sedation dentistry safe for me?

A.

Oral sedation dentistry protocols have been used safely for 30 years. The doctor will review your medical history and monitor you closely while under sedation.

Q.

Will my insurance cover it?

A.

Most likely.  But, if necessary, we can make financial arrangements so you can get the care you need.
